Regional Scholastic Art Awards
Congratulations to the 11 students from Mercy’s Art Department who won 13 awards in this year’s Regional Scholastic Art Awards competition. Special congratulations to Celeste Gonzalez and Halie Zulch. Their photography portfolios made finalist status and will compete in New York City for talent scholarships. Also, special recognition to Celeste Gonzalez and Caroline Patterson for winning gold keys in the individual photo contest. Their pieces will also compete in New York for national awards.
The College for Creative Studies sponsors the Southeastern Michigan Art Region, which receives over 4,000 works of art and almost 300 portfolios from students in Wayne and Oakland Counties. The works are adjudicated and selected for Certificates, Silver Keys and Gold Key Awards, American Vision Nominations and Best of Show Portfolios. The exhibit and ceremony are held annually at the College for Creative Studies. Gold Key work is forwarded digitally to the Alliance for national judging.*Winning pieces are featured in the photo gallery at top of page.

Farmington Area Arts Commission Student Art Competition
Congratulations to Rachel Mack, Julianne Williams, and Genevieve Chiara of Mercy’s Art Department who won awards at the annual Farmington Area Arts Commission Student Art Competition.Rachel won second place ($75) in the two-dimensional category for her color pencil drawing titled, “Ski Mask.” Julianne won second place ($75) in the photography category for her photo titled, “Teal Tie.” Genevieve won an Honorable Mention ($25) for her pencil self-portrait drawing titled, “Genevieve.”
The winning art will be displayed at theFestival of the Arts at the Costick Center from April 19 - April 21. Awards will be presented on Thursday, April 19, at the Costick Center beginning at 7:00 PM. The art will also be displayed at Miller’s Art Supply April 24 - May 25.*Winning pieces are featured in the photo gallery at top of page.
