Classroom Policies
Respect - At the heart of our study is reverence for God and
respect for others. Careful and reflective listening to one another is
expected of all. A student with comments or questions is expected to
raise her hand and wait to be called on before speaking. Respect would
include no writing on desks or leaving garbage in the room.
Handbook - Policies contained in the School Agenda,
including those regarding dress and lunch passes, are assumed as class
policies.
Absence - It is the student's responsibility to check with
the teacher regarding work or tests missed due to absence for any reason
(including field trips), and to make arrangements. An assignment will be
considered on time if it is received the class following an unplanned
absence. Students absent for more than one day should see the teacher
for due dates. Tests are announced well in advance, and students absent
the day before a test will be expected to take the test at the scheduled
time. Tests missed due to absence must be made up by the next
unscheduled class period at the latest. Points will be
deducted from tests taken later. Arrange with Mrs. Lusch to make up your
test.
A student with an excessive number of absences risks losing credit
for the class. Three unexcused tardies are equal to one absence.
Tardiness - Students are expected to be on time for class, and in
their seats when the period begins. Please take care of restroom needs
outside of class time. If you do enter class late, do not interrupt the
class or distract your classmates. See me after class to be
certain that I have not marked you absent on the attendance sheet. A
tardy will not be considered excused without a written note from a staff
member. A pass from the attendance office does not excuse a tardy. Two
jugs are assigned for each three unexcused tardies to class.
Homework - Be prepared for each class. Written assignments should
be neat and follow guidelines in your agenda book. Graded assignments
will be marked down 10% (the equivalent of a grade) for
each class day late. Assignments received after the
beginning of the period will be counted as late.
Grading - Final grades for this class will mostly be computed
from grades on tests, quizzes, reflective papers and projects, tabulated
on a point system. The number of points for each assignment or test will
be announced. Missed assignments receive 0 points. (A grade of "0" is
very harmful to the grade average!) A participation grade will also be
included. You are encouraged to take part in class discussions. A lack
of attentive listening will be considered a lack of
participation. You will need your textbook in order to participate
fully.
Saving work – For various reasons, it is important to keep all
assignments, handouts, etc., until the class has been completed. A
pocket folder is ideal for this purpose.
