Advanced Placement English Exam update:
Mercy offers the Advanced Placement
English Exam in Literature and Composition. We do not offer at
this time the Language and Composition exam. Mercy's English
curriculum provides a substantial enrichment that should prepare
students well if they choose to take the exam, given in the Spring of
each year.
The English dept. conducted an informational
field trip in February for students interested in the exam. For
the current school year the field trip was scheduled for Wednesday,
February 13, periods 1 - 4.
Interested students should consult college
and universities' catalogs/websites for information about whether a
specific school accepts AP scores for college credit and the conditions
under which that credit is granted. Typically, schools accept a
score of 3 or higher (on a 5 point scale) for college credit.
The fee for
this year's exam (2007-08) is
$84.00 ($13 of which serves as an order fee). The English Literature and
Composition exam will be given on Thursday, May 8, 8:00 a.m - noon.
IMPORTANT DATES:
Monday, March 10 deadline:
$13 order fee is due BEFORE or BY this date. Make separate check
out to "Mercy High School," and submit to Ms. Michalik (room S-6).
This fee is non-refundable but it is applied to the total cost of the
exam.
Monday, April 14 deadline:
$71 balance is due BEFORE or BY this date. Make separate check out
to "Mercy High School," and submit to Ms. Michalik (room S-6).
Be sure to review carefully the guidelines
booklet given at the field trip (or by other AP class teachers.
Note particularly the items you may NOT bring to the testing room.
The College Board service is very specific about security.
If you have any questions, please feel
free to contact Ms. Mika or Ms. Michalik.

Note well:
review half a dozen or so literary works (novels & plays) of varied
types tragic, comic, satiric, realistic, for plot & character summary to
assure you have a stock of material ready for the day of the exam. Some
on-line sites have plot/character material for your review, good for
brush-up. Likewise, works you are currently studying might prove
useful. |

random guessing . . . is unlikely to change your grade.”

Is there a reduced fee available for bundling exams (taking more than
