R e m i n d e r s    t o    a l l      s t u d e n t s :

If you are absent on the day we take a READING QUIZ, you must arrive 7:30 a.m. the day you return to make up this QUIZ since it will be part of the lesson in class.

If you are absent on the day we take a TEST, following discussion and unit activities, you will take the make up in the Media Center on unscheduled time within three (3) days of your return UNLESS YOU RETURN ON THE DAY OUR CLASS DOES NOT MEET.  In this case, please arrange to take the make up test during our unscheduled time.   This typically is not part of our class lesson, but you do not want to have new work pile up on you.

The above notices obviously refer to absences of one or two days.  If you are ill for a more extended period of time, please email me or see me the morning you return to school and we will arrange a reasonable schedule for make up.

If you fail to have your book in class, you will be penalized 10% down on the next graded assignment or test.  It is essential that you have texts and materials in class for literature review and/or group work.

If you do not have your homework by the time class meets on the day it is due you will receive a zero since this is typically the lesson for that class.  Failure to have more extended assignments--that is, work assigned well in advance and of greater complexity--will incur a penalty of 10% off that assignment for each day it is not received, including off-cycle days.  If you have an early dismissal and will miss our class, please arrange to hand me your homework before you leave to assure credit.  If you cannot find me, give it to the Receptionist with my name on it.

PLAGIARISM POLICY

To evaluate each student's work fairly as a piece of work in itself and in comparison to the work of other students, it is essential that all work be done honestly by the student who submits it for a grade.

Plagiarism means presenting the words, work, or opinions of someone else as if they were your own--in other words, without documentation to the original source.

A.  You commit plagiarism if you submit as if it were your own:

      1.  Material copied from an unpublished source such as

           another person's manuscript or notes.

      2.  Material copied, paraphrased, or summarized from a

published source such as a book, magazine, or pamphlet.

      3.  A unique idea or sequence of ideas transferred from a

source to your paper without giving credit to that source.

B.  You are an accomplice in plagiarism if you do any of the following:

       1.  Allow your paper, in outline or finished form, to be

copied and submitted as the work of another student.

[E.g., you loan your paper to someone else]

        2. Prepare a written assignment for another student and

allow it to be submitted as that student's work.

        3. Keep or contribute to a file of papers with the clear intent

that these papers be copied and submitted as the work of

anyone other than the original author.

C.  SANCTIONS:

Failure to do your own work or to give credit to sources

(using MLA citation, documentation) will result in:

          1. A conference with your teacher  AND

          2. A grade of NO CREDIT (0) on the assignment with no

              option to rewrite.

          3. Any subsequent incident will result in referral to

              Administration.
